I March 2011, there were large amouts of radioactie material released ito the air due to the exlosio of the ukushima-Daiichi uclear ower lat of TEPCO(Tokyo Electric Power Comay) caused by the Great East Jaa Earthquake. As a result, there hae bee issues regardig the exosure leels, safety of foods, ad the temorary radioactie waste storage i the ukushima refecture ad the surroudig area.

Out of the areas that were ot istructed to eacuate, the study area, Nihomatsu city, ukushima, located 3760 kilometers away from the ukushima-Daiichi uclear ower lat, retaied oe of the highest radiatio dosage.

As of ebruary 2015, the oulatio of Nihomatsu city is 55,467 eole, which is 4,200 eole less tha before.
