2. Конструкция used to
Мы используем конструкцию used to, когда говорим о привычках и состояниях в прошлом, каких-либо повторяющихся действиях в прошлом. Данную конструкцию можно перевести на русский язык как «раньше, бывало».
Examples:
1) I used to read children’s comics. (Now I read newspapers . )
Раньше я читал детские комиксы. (Теперь я читаю газеты.)
2) I used to hate carrot. (Now I like it.)
Раньше я ненавидел морковь. (Теперь она мне нравится.)
Упражнение 1. Подставьте глаголы в скобках, используя used to.

The Past Continuous Tense
(Прошедшее длительное время)
Past continuous выражает прошедшее действие в процессе совершения.
Употребление.
1. Для выражения длительного действия, начавшегося до определенного момента в прошлом и все еще совершавшегося в тот момент.
Examples:
He was writing a letter at 5 o’clock yesterday.
What were you doing at 5 o’clock yesterday?
2. Когда нужно сделать акцент на длительности действия в прошлом. Обычно с использованием таких маркеров: all day long , all day yesterday .
Examples:
It was snowing all day long.
3. В комбинации с Past Simple в сложных предложениях, где Past Simple выражает краткое действие, прерывающее длительное действие, выраженное Past Continuous.
Examples:
I was sleeping when the doorbell rang.
When he came, I was reading a book.

Маркерами данного времени являются: all day long, all night, at the same time yesterday, etc.
