I would recommend them to visit London. The capital of the country is a diverse and exciting city with some of the world's best sights, attractions and activities. London has many faces and means many things to many people. You can't fail to be excited by London's amazing attractions. See London from above on the London Eye; meet a celebrity at Madame Tussauds; examine some of the world's most precious treasures at the British Museum, enjoy wonderful music at the Royal Albert Hall. I would also advice to visit Stratford-upon-Avon which is associated with the name of William Shakespeare and Liverpool which is proud to be the birthplace of the best band in the world “The Beatles”.
If you have a chance to live one year in Great Britain, which part of it will you choose? Why?
I would choose England and its capital London. It attracts people by its sights, phone boxes, red buses and such a special atmosphere. I want to visit Buckingham palace in London, the place which is famous for its guards. Everyone who comes there wants to take a photo with the guard and make him move.
I’d like to see the Tower of London where ravens live, protecting the city as the legend says, and besides the Crown jewels are kept there. It would be interesting to have a look at them…
Let’s talk about science and modern technologies.
Let’s talk about science and modern technologies. What is the role in the fast moving world?
Do all scientific discoveries have a positive effect on our lives?
I’m convinced that almost everything can be a bless or a curse. It’s true that technology has been created for bad purposes as well as good. Nuclear power has enabled us to generate (производить) energy but it has also been used to create weapons. We shouldn’t forget about nuclear bombs, the Chernobyl and Fukushima disasters. Moreover it is often said that technology should bring apology to ecology because it has polluted and is badly polluting our environment. So as you can see the progress of science is not that harmless.
What questions will you ask a most outstanding scientist?
It would be a great opportunity to meet an outstanding scientist. So I would ask:
- What helps you to get new ideas?
- What is your greatest invention or discovery?
- What does your laboratory look like?
- What are your ambitions?
- Who is your idol in science?
- How much time is it necessary to understand that you have made a discovery?
- Do you feel envy of your colleagues’ success?
- Do you prefer to work alone or with a group of scientists?
My cousin spends a lot of time chatting in VK (V Kontakte) and it makes all the family angry. What can you advise him/her to do in this situation?
It’s true that a lot of young people spend too much time in social networks. People who spend most of their time in the virtual world forget about the real one. They neglect their relatives and ruin their families. And your cousin is not an exception. So it’s not surprising that all the family is angry. I would try to explain to him that our family and real friends are our nearest and dearest. That’s why he should spend more time with them. You can go to the cinema or theatre together. Why not go for a walk or eat out together? It’s a good idea just to have a meal together and discuss what has happened during the day. I’m sure sharing bad and good moments of your life will make you united.
Adults think that the Internet influences negatively the development of teenagers’ thinking skills. Children, on the contrary, believe that it’s impossible to imagine our modern world without the Internet. What do you think about it?
On the one hand, I agree that it’s impossible to imagine our modern world without the Internet. The Internet is a great source of information and entertainment for many people. It has made possible new forms of social interaction and has become a major source of leisure. Personally, I can’t imagine my life without Internet. Thanks to it I have got an opportunity to access news, documents, images, sounds, video and games, to make friends, to book tickets and to purchase different things online. There are a lot of different sites for students, gardeners, businessmen, engineers, for people who are fond of music, cinema, theatre, sports and even for disabled people. What is more, the Internet has revolutionized the way people communicate. Sending electronic text messages is much faster and easier than writing letters. People use e-mail to stay in touch with friends worldwide.
On the other hand, I can understand our parents. Internet-addiction is a topical problem nowadays. Spending much time in front of the screen becomes a kind of obsession for many people. The symptoms of internet-addiction include sleep deprivation, decreased physical activity and social interaction with others. And it influences children’s thinking skills. A lot of students, for example, copy materials from the Internet when they write their homework or write their coursework. So they no longer have to read books in libraries, take notes and plan their own essays. They just copy.
To sum up, the Internet becomes dangerous when it is misused. But if it is used wisely and moderately, it helps you work, study or entertain and it saves plenty of time.
Let’s talk about art.
