I saw him yesterday.

I've sent a letter to my friends.

Have you talked to him about it?

Come tomorrow.

I'll go to the library at once and get this book out.

Who's sitting over there?

Не gave me a book . (a book – прямое дополнение,

me – косвенное дополнение)

1. The book was given (to) me.

2. I was given a book. -

They showed us a new film . (a new film – прямое дополнение, us – косвенное дополнение)

1. We were shown a new film. –

2. A new film was shown to us.

to give (давать):

He was given a ticket to the concert. –

to grant (давать, предоставлять):

They were granted a loan. -

to offer (предлагать):

He was offered some interesting work.

to pay (платить):

They are paid twice a month. –

to promise (обещать):

I was promised this book. –

to show (показывать):

We were shown some interesting diagrams. –

to tell (рассказывать):

We were told the news yesterday. –

to teach (преподавать):

They are taught French at school. –

They laughed at him.

He was laughed at.

We sent for the doctor. –

The doctor was sent for.

to account for (объяснять):

The late arrival of the steamer is accounted for by the storm on the sea. –

to agree upon (договориться о):

The terms were agreed upon. –

to allude to (намекать на, касаться):

The question is alluded to in this article. –

to arrive at (достигать):

to comment upon (комментировать):

to depend on (полагаться на):

This man can be depended on.

to dispose of (реализовать, ликвидировать):

The goods will be disposed of in a short time.

to insist on (настаивать на):

to interfere with (мешать):

to laugh at (смеяться над):

to look at (смотреть на):

She was looked at with surprise. –

to provide for (предусматривать):

Payment in cash is provided for by the contract. –

to refer to (ссылаться на):

This book is often referred to.

to rely on (полагаться на):

This man can be relied on.

to speak of/about (говорить о):

The book is very much spoken of.

to send for (посылать за):

The doctor will be sent for at once. –

to take care of (заботиться о):

His child is well taken care of.

to lose sight of

At last the ship was lost sight of.

В английском языке существует группа глаголов, например: to explain smth . to smb ., to translate smth . to smb ., to dictate smth . to smb ., to describe smth . to smb ., etc., с которыми в страдательном залоге (когда подлежащее представляет собой прямой непосредственный объект действия) возможна только одна конструкция, а именно:

This rule was explained to me twice.

THE SEQUENCE OF TENSES

«Yesterday I went hunting. I was walking quickly as I suddenly saw a hare which was running my way. I took aim and fired. The smoke rolled away. I looked around and did not see the hare. Where was it? It had run away. I had known before that it would run away».

I know that she is a good pupil.

He will say that he is your friend.

I know that she was a good pupil last year.

He will say that they lived in Kiev.

I know that she will be a good pupil next year.

(Future in the Past).

Past Continuous:

I was sure that you knew her address.

I thought that he was waiting for me in the entrance hall.

Past Perfect:

I was sure that he had left Moscow.

Future in the Past.

He said that he would try to come in time.

The teacher told the children that water boils at 100 degrees centigrade.

My brother told me about the book which you are reading.

He wasn’t able to translate the article because he doesn’t know English well.

He was once stronger than he is now.

The Future in the Past

The Future in the Past Indefinite

I should work                    we should work

–                                        you would work

he, she, it would work       they would work

He said that he would come at ten o'clock.

The Future in the Past Continuous

I told them that at two o'clock the following day I should be having a music lesson.

Образуется оно из вспомогательных глаголов should или would + инфинитив в Continuous (=be + 4-я форма глагола):

I should be working                    we should be working

–                                                 you would be working

he, she, it would be working       they would be working

The Future in the Past Perfect

He said yesterday that by the time we were back he would have finished the letter.

Образуется оно из вспомогательных глаголов should и would + инфинитив в Perfect (= have + 3-я форма глагола):

I should have worked – he, she, it would have worked we should have worked you would have worked they would have worked

Future in the Past Perfect Future in the Past Perfect Continuous
