SELL YOURSELF TO AN EMPLOYER
The most important part of getting a job is being able to sell yourself to an employer. You can sell yourself on paper with a resume, in person through an interview or both.
Your Resume
A written summary of your background is called a resume. You may send a resume to a potential employer along with a request for a personal interview. In this way you are able to reach many more employers than would be possible if you tried to see each one in person.
A good resume lets the employer know many things about you in advance. He can then decide whether it would be worth while to ask you to come in for an interview. Keep in mind that your resume is a picture of you. Keep it neat, simple, and, above all, truthful. Show that you are a reasonable person willing and able to do the job called for. Your resume should tell (1) who you are, (2) your education, (3) your work experience, and (4), possibly, people who will give references for you.
The Job Interview
The interview is probably the toughest part of job hunting. You are face to face with the person who is going to decide whether you will get the job. You will have only about 15 minutes to make a good impression. Get to the interview a few minutes early/ Your appearance is important. Be clean and dress conservatively. Be prepared to answer questions about yourself. If you have not sent in a resume, give one to the interviewer. Be polite and keep calm. Above all, do not argue with him.
The person who interviews you may ask you to take a short test to show if you have the skills needed for the job.
